Christmas Eve at DB Bistro Moderne

I love Christmas. I love the beautiful magical decorations, I love the Christmas songs, I love it's holiday seasons, I love it's time we close the year.

Last year, the Man proposed to me at the rainy Christmas Eve night. We had a long day at Botanic Garden and movies before the dinner. We didn't have any reservation, but we ended in Cut in Marina Bay Sands. Not bad a dinner at all!!

This year, I wanted to make sure we have a good table for dinner, I kinda forced the Man to make a reservation at DB Bistro, still, in Marina Bay Sands. To celebrate the fact that we closed the year fine =)

So, here are what we ordered.

Complementary bread basket (I love their bread)

Photobucket

Appetizer: Escargots Persillade (Wild Burgundy Snails with Garlic & Parsley Butter,  French Baguette)

Photobucket

Christmas Menu: Scallop Black Tie (Scallop with black truffles) This is supposed to be an appertizer, but I had this as main

Photobucket

Main: New Orléans Casserole (Mussels, Clams, Pork Sausage, Bluefoot Mushrooms, White Wine, Garlic Fries)

Photobucket
Photobucket

Desserts: CHOCOLATE FONDANT (Crispy feuilletine, Tonka Ice Cream)

Photobucket

All in all, we love the food. We think the ingredients were fresh. The clams and mussels tasted fantastic to be stewed in wine. The scallop was fresh and this is the first time I tasted black truffles. But, the chocolate fondant was a bit disappointing. I think the one I had during our Europe trip was much better. Anyway, we're still happy with the dinner =)

The bill definitely didn't come cheap, but we expected that for a fine dining experience. Once a year, I guess that wasn't too bad. I was planning to pay the bill this year, to celebrate my good year. But because I got the Man a Christmas gift, he decided to pay it. Hohoho!~

Last but not least, wish all of you a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! If you're not having a great year this year, don't worry, you're going to have a good one next year! Plan ahead and hope for the best! If you're having a great year, you're going to have a better one!

*Sorry for the low quality of the pictures, the restaurant was very dark and I had to turn on the ISO very high.

Lemon & Rosemary Chicken with Chickpea Salad

My second attempt, healthier =)
Photobucket

Cooking is just a series of experiments to be carried out in the kitchen :)

Toast Bread with Chickpea Salad

Since the dinner last night, I think I got myself hooked on to the chickpea salad. So, I made the same salad for my breakfast again. However, minus the sauce from frying the leftover chicken, the salad wasn't as good as last night. But at least, healthier.

I love my breakfast!

Lemon & Rosemary Chicken with Chickpea Salad

I'm glad that our first episode of "Wedding Trilogy" had ended, still a month plus before the back to back second and grand finale. And I finally found some time in the kitchen, once again.

I have been looking forward to cook myself dinner after work again, even before my first episode. I once again, shopped for food magazine, and couldn't wait to experiment them! Today, finally! =)

Photobucket

This recipe was meant for pork in the magazine, but I used chicken. And, it's actually under healthier recipe, but due to the fact that I always associate healthy food with not-too-delicious food, I refused to follow the recipe 100%. However, well, it really turned out very unhealthy! So, I promised, I'll do a lighter version on my second attempt.

But oh boy, I'm proud of myself. I sent a picture of my dinner to the Man, and he said with this look, I can sell it at $20. Hahaha!!! *proud*

Please click here for the original recipe.

As for my own version, instead of lean meat, I bought chicken thigh. And I chose to fry the chicken with butter. And, I didn't use onion, just because I'm lazy. I sprinkle a little of lemon juice and pepper on the salad before serving.

Do try this at home, it's really good ^.^

Baked Potato

Photobucket

I love potatoes a lot, I cook them in all forms.

I pan fried them, mashed them, cooked them in soup, make potato salad etc. The easiest and my favourite (cause it's so easy for lazy people) is to bake them. Oven is one of the best invention one can find in kitchen.

My favourite is to bake mini potatoes. We can normally get a packet of approximately 30 mini potatoes less than $2 in Shop & Save. For lazy people like me, please remember to get the pre-washed potatoes.

Ingredients:
1. Potatoes (duh~)
2. Bacon (It's always better to get streaky bacon, but for healtier choice, you can always chose back bacon)
3. Butter
4. Grated Parmesan cheese
5. Rosemary and some mixed herbs
6. Salt
7. Pepper
8. Olive oil

 Method:
1. Wash the potatoes
2. Cut the potatoes into halves (If you get big potatoes, dice them)
3. Marinate the potatoes with salt, pepper, rosemary, mixed herbs
4. Mean while, heat up the oven to 200 degree Celcius.
5. Dice the bacon
6. Place a piece of Aluminum foil on the baking pan and spread butter on the foil
7. Arrange the potatoes nicely on the butter
8. Spread the bacon evenly on top of the potatoes
9. Spread the grated cheese on top of the bacon. Alternately, you could spread them before serve
10. Put the potatoes into preheated oven for 25-30minutes
11. When the potatoes are nicely baked until golden brown, serve :)

Tied the Knot

This is the excuse I have for being not very active and not very committed in my photography hobby this year.

Yes, we've tied the knot last weekend with blessings and wishes from friends & families =)

Photobucket

Marina Bay Sands Skypark@Level57

Photobucket

Breakfast

Photobucket

It's just a simple tuna sandwich that I've been eating for a week. I took this picture simply because I bought some kitchen cloths from Daiso and I love them :P

Cats

Photobucket

I'm never a cat person. I'm the dog person.

But as everything is in life, it's unfair. The market is mostly flooded with cute products of cat prints, not so much of dog prints. And Singapore allow stray cats under the HDB flats, but not the dogs. Cats are simply taking a bigger space in my life. Even though, I'm still a dog person.

I used to hate cats, but not anymore. I don't love them still, but not hating them anymore.

I'm in love with the new kitchen cloth I got from Daiso. Couldn't resist to take a picture of it :)

I know, sounded stupid again.

Drips Bakery Cafe

Went to Drips Bakery Cafe with Kia Hooi on Saturday, as a start of her orientation in Singapore. I thought she will need a place with lesser crowd to start with, instead of crazy long queues for every single meal in the city center.

This was only my second visit to Drips, and the first time to come with public transport. I just love my iPhone! With the help of the map, we found the place! :)
Photobucket

Photobucket

I consider we went quite early, so there were still some empty tables around. So I didn't feel so embarrass to take pictures in the cafe. But I avoid the crowds behind.

Fong wasn't around on Saturday, too bad.

My lunch, smoked salmon sandwich.

I thought the first smoked salmon I had in Drips was better because of the bread. The bread we had yesterday was just a multi grain. But the one I had for the first time was cranberry. It went so well with the mustard and the salmon. Yum!

We were full after the sandwich, so we didn't order any tarts. But actually tarts and desserts were the whole point of visiting Drips! Well... There's always next time :)
